Hera network connection scenarios
The Hera can connect to a network using any of the following scenarios, provided they are available on site:
- Cellular WAN only
- Ethernet WAN only
- Cellular connection protected by an Ethernet connection
- Ethernet connection protected by a cellular connection
About interface priority
Where the connection is protected by a secondary connection, the interfaces are prioritised according to the Hera configuration, which is set up uniquely for the customer. Normally, the order is:
- Ethernet WAN (Primary)
- Cellular WAN (Secondary)
The Hera falls back to lower priority interfaces when higher priority ones are not available.
Setting up the Hera for network connection
Only power up the Hera after the network cables and antennas are in place.
You need only set up the connections that the site has available. For example, for a cellular only connection, you do not need to set up the Ethernet and WiFi connections.
Possible connection configurations
For Cellular WAN only:
- Attach cellular antennas (primary and diversity)
- No WAN port required
- May attach devices on LAN using up to four ports as no WAN
- May include WiFi
For Ethernet WAN only:
- No cellular antennas required
- Requires a WAN port, use either Link1 or Link4
- May attach devices on LAN using up to three ports (if Link1 is for WAN, then Link2, Link3, Link4)
- May include WiFi
For Cellular connection protected by an Ethernet connection:
- Attach cellular antennas (primary and diversity)
- Requires a WAN port, use either Link1 or Link4
- May attach devices on LAN using up to three ports (if Link1 is for WAN, Link2, Link3, Link4)
- May include WiFi
For Ethernet connection protected by a cellular connection:
- Attach cellular antennas (primary and diversity)
- Requires a WAN port, use either Link1 or Link4
- May attach devices on LAN using up to three ports (Link2, Link3, Link4)
- May include WiFi
