# About network traffic analysis using PCAP Explorer

PCAP Explorer helps network administrators and security professionals monitor and analyse network activity. Use it to investigate network congestion, data loss, and suspicious or unauthorized activity.

Request continuous capture of all network traffic data for devices in a portfolio. The captured data includes the full packet contents, including headers and payloads.

PCAP Explorer records this data chronologically in separate real-time files for 30-minute periods. Capture volume depends on the network configuration and IoT device activity. PCAP Explorer merges the files into one file, then compresses it.

Eseye sends the compressed file to you through SFTP. You can decode it with a tool such as Wireshark and analyse network traffic over time.

{% hint style="info" %}
Eseye does not store captured data.

The Push API provides a lighter option for real-time monitoring. It transmits the API's specified data points rather than all raw device data. Use the Push API to monitor specific events or metrics in real time. ## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.eseye.com/anynet-sim/connectivity/monitoring-and-diagnostics/about-network-traffic-analysis-using-pcap-explorer.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
