# IoT Wireless Technologies

This topic describes the wireless technologies designed for use with IoT devices:

* LTE-M
* NB-IoT

For more information about selecting the best wireless technology for your IoT device, see the LoRa or Cellular for IoT blog post.

## LTE-M / LTE Cat-M

LTE-M is an IoT-specific radio access technology that utilises existing LTE infrastructure to support IoT devices and their specific use cases, including:

* Low power consumption – supporting [eDRX and PSM](https://app.gitbook.com/s/R60wMwGxVlr3J15eCIGp/nutaq-picolte/configuring-nutaq-picolte-for-gsm-power-saving-mode) power-saving features
* Long range – up to 10-15km
* Low data rates – maximum of 1Mbps (for CAT-M1 devices)

Although LTE-M doesn’t provide the same battery life length as NB-IoT, it offers a higher bandwidth which can support higher data rates.

## NB-IoT

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a radio access technology that utilises narrow frequency ranges (180kHz) in existing LTE radio bands to provide features and services that are optimised for IoT devices. This includes:

* Lower power requirements (utilising [eDRX and PSM](https://app.gitbook.com/s/R60wMwGxVlr3J15eCIGp/nutaq-picolte/configuring-nutaq-picolte-for-gsm-power-saving-mode) power-saving features)
* Lower data rates

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.eseye.com/anynet-sim/how-anynet-sims-work/iot-wireless-technologies.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
