# Demo: check a SIM's status

This is a demo page for testing the docs submission pipeline. It can be deleted once the demo is finished.

## Check a SIM's status

You can check whether a SIM is active before you deploy a device.

1. Sign in to the portal.
2. Open the SIM list and search for the SIM by its ICCID.
3. Check the Status column. Active means the SIM is ready to use.

{% hint style="info" %}
A newly activated SIM can take a few minutes to show as Active.
{% endhint %}

## Find the ICCID

The ICCID is the 19 or 20 digit number that identifies the SIM. You need it to find the SIM in the portal.

* On a removable SIM, it is printed on the plastic carrier the SIM came in, and on the SIM itself.
* On an embedded SIM, it is on the delivery paperwork, or you can read it from the device using an AT command.

## If the SIM is not active

A SIM that shows as anything other than Active cannot connect, however the device is configured.

1. Check you have searched for the right ICCID. Digits are easy to transpose.
2. Check whether the SIM has been suspended. A suspended SIM stays in your account but cannot use data.
3. If the SIM should be active and is not, contact your account manager.

{% hint style="info" %}
After a SIM becomes active, power cycle the device so it attaches to the network again.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.eseye.com/anynet-sim/managing-sims/demo-check-a-sims-status.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
