# System lifecycle management

System lifecycle management is the process of managing the entire lifecycle of software and firmware elements that runs on IoT devices. It is critical for ensuring that devices remain secure, reliable, and up-to-date throughout their lifecycle, which is essential for providing a positive user experience and protecting against security threats.

The lifecycle management process involves:

1. Defining and managing software and firmware requirements for devices.
2. Developing and testing software and firmware on devices.
3. Deploying software and firmware to devices in a secure and controlled manner.
4. Monitoring and managing the performance of software and firmware on devices.
5. Providing ongoing maintenance and support for software and firmware on devices, including managing updates, security patches, bug fixes, and so on.
6. Retiring software, firmware, and devices when they reach the end of their useful life.

We supply AnyNet SMARTconnect™ to help you deploy and maintain your device software and firmware. For more information, see [About AnyNet SMARTconnect™](/smartconnect/getting-started/about-anynet-smartconnect-tm.md).

Lifecycle management is becoming increasingly important as the number of connected devices continues to grow, and the complexity of software and firmware running on these devices increases.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.eseye.com/smartconnect/getting-started/system-lifecycle-management.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
